February 22, 2016 - Jeff Patch
The time has come for us to officially announce that drummer Alex Tattersall has resigned from Free To Grow. Alex gave us a heads up last summer that he wanted to get involved in other projects and we offer thanks and wish him the best in all his future musical endeavours.
Alex joined Free to Grow in April 2014 as we started to work on songs for our debut album. His combination of feel and power made him a shoo-in for the position and his range of skills was a perfect fit for the Free To Grow concept. His creative beats and fills are found throughout our album. He was also a fan favourite at all our live shows in our first year. “Who is the guy playing drums?” was an oft-overheard comment.
Good luck Alex and thank you for your tremendous contribution to Free To Grow.
As we bid farewell and best wishes to Alex, we offer a warm welcome to Mathieu Wong.
Born and raised in Toronto, Mathieu is actually a pretty nice guy! He now resides in Fredericton while attending the University of New Brunswick. When he’s not studying or watching hockey, he enjoys jamming to his favourite progressive rock songs. Mathieu took formal lessons for his first few years of playing and continues to develop his well-rounded style via engagement with varied musical environments. Entering his tenth year playing and performing, Mathieu has been able to gain experience playing with different rock bands, jazz bands, and accompanying choirs and symphonic groups in Canada and abroad.
He has found a good musical and personal fit with Free to Grow and relishes any opportunity to jam with fellow musicians. His main influences, among the extensive mile-long list, include Rush, Yes, Dream Theater, Marillion, and Spock’s Beard.
